“Mathematics” is a magazine for secondary school students of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, published by the Central Committee of the Dmitrov Communist Youth Union and the Ministry of Public Education. High school students in Bulgaria, who are more interested in mathematics, receive 6 books of the magazine every day with a volume of 48 pages. The magazine is very popular - its circulation exceeds 50 thousand copies. The editorial board of “Mathematics” includes a number of famous Bulgarian mathematicians, who devoted a lot of time and effort to promoting mathematics among young people.
The traditional magazine is a systematic publication of stories about outstanding mathematicians, popular science articles on the development of mathematical science and its applications. From issue to issue, the magazine publishes small materials on mathematical problems accessible to high school students, introduces its readers to a modern presentation of a number of issues in elementary mathematics, to such branches of science as set theory, group theory, etc. It is especially pleasant to note that all the articles are written in an accessible, engaging and vivid manner. Among the journal’s materials there are translations of articles by foreign, in particular, Soviet mathematicians.
A significant place in the magazine is devoted to the task, recommended for those finishing school, for those entering college and technical education. A special section is devoted to more difficult problems: the reader is invited to participate in a competition to solve them. The last few pages of the magazine contain entertaining and humorous questions.
In this issue «Kvant» we will introduce our readers to several materials translated from the magazine “Mathematics”.

On behalf of our many readers and on behalf of the editors, we cordially congratulate you on the creation of the Vashcheyo magazine and wish you fruitful and successful work. The journal “Mathematics,” which has been published for nine years, is «Kvant»’s brother. And we will be very happy if both journals further establish a theoretical one.
