APPLICANT PRACTICUM

In the current academic year, the publication of materials will continue on the pages of Quaenta under the guidance of the “Enrollment Practice.” Letters received by the editor show that this department is of keen interest to many readers of the magazine. We are very grateful to everyone who gave us their comments and suggestions.

Of course, there is no way to cover all the questions included in the program of entrance exams in mathematics and physics. Yes, there is no need for this - these issues are studied at school and discussed in detail in school textbooks. Therefore, the editors have outlined only a few topics that are of fundamental importance and, in one form or another, are most often used when solving competitive problems, and usually cause difficulties for applicants.

For example, we propose to talk about the development of inequalities, about solving systems of non-linear equations, about problems on combinations of spatial bodies, about a graphical method for solving some problems on composing equations, etc. In physics, articles will be published concerning such issues as the kinematic equation of motion, solving problems on the equilibrium of bodies, thermal processes, current laws and others.

These articles will contain, if possible, a detailed presentation of theoretical material, accompanied by an analysis of tasks taken from the practice of entrance exams.

We also propose, for informational purposes, to include examples of options in mathematics and physics that were offered in 1971 at the entrance exams at various universities across the country. These options will be provided only with answers (or instructions) - we hope that the reader will be interested in trying his hand at solving competition problems on his own.
